Why MYOB Tableau Reporting Requires a Sync Layer
MYOB is one of the most widely used accounting platforms in Australia and New Zealand. But like most accounting software, MYOB is not designed with direct BI tool integration in mind. Tableau cannot query the MYOB API natively — there is no certified MYOB connector in the Tableau connector marketplace.
MYOB AccountRight exposes an ODBC interface to its local company file database. This gives Tableau a path to the data — but ODBC comes with the same operational constraints it does for every accounting platform: driver installation on every Tableau Desktop machine, gateway or bridge configuration for Tableau Server and Cloud, and live queries against your accounting software at every refresh cycle. AccountRight's ODBC access also requires the company file to be open locally during each query.
MYOB Business (cloud) does not expose ODBC at all. It has a REST API, but Tableau cannot connect to it natively. Teams that want MYOB Business data in Tableau typically fall back to manual spreadsheet exports — a process that does not scale beyond small teams doing infrequent analysis.
